Beat the "Shack Nasties"

The winter is dragging on in Western Wisconsin. We've been able to beat the blues down a bit with the production of Episodes 7 and 8. Joe and I offer a new segment entitled: "What Do You Carry in Your Vest?" Send us an email explaining what you carry and why. You wont believe what some people have in their vests.

I recommend that you subscribe to our podcast via itunes and listen to the episodes while on the road. If that doesn't work for you, you can go to our site, http://www.fishingwithjoe.com/ and directly download the episodes or just listen. We guarantee FWJ as a way of getting through the winter.

The winter opener in Western Wiscsonsin starts on March 1, so needless to say it's time to clean the fly lines and stock up on tipet, leaders, and nymph patterns. Who knows, we might even by able to catch a few on the surface with a good midge pattern. Be careful to avoid putting flys in your mouth while you attach your leader (listen to Joe's "Pass the Mustad" essay in episode 8.

Look forward to hearing from you!

In my vest I used to carry a pack of cigarettes, a lighter, and a chocolate bar. Life has turned around for me alot in the last 10 years or so, and I now bring the receiving end of a baby monitor, as well as my constant fishing companion - my needlenose pliers. Those pliers are great for getting fish off the line, attaching tackle of every kind, and even measuring my catch. In fact I have to say if I got out to the river and I didn't have my pliers, I would go back to the house to get them. For some reason of luck or skill that I cannot explain I have never dropped the pliers into the river. In my vest you'll also find whatever it is that I have to remember to give to my brother. There is usually something from the holidays I need to return to him - a forgotten present, a corkscrew, etc. I don't see my brother too much but when I go down behind the house to fish on opening morning, I know that when the sun rises, he'll be down there fishing just upstream from the place I always start out. We've never gotten along too well, he and I, but we do have an unwritten code, that on opener, we fish together - no plans or discussion required. So once a year, I bring along my brother's stuff, in my vest. -wisconsinmom

I think this is a great picture of Chris. Actually I'm just trying out the blog comment feature.

This is Ken by the way.
